It’s as simple as applying lip gloss on your lids

Just like the pieces in the collection that closed Singapore Fashion Week 2017, the beauty look for the runway seems like something cool girl Arissa Cheo would gravitate towards on a day-to-day basis. An all-over subtle glow was paired with shimmering copper eyeshadow and glossy luscious lips. Contrary to what you might think, mastering the super-shiny peepers and lips look isn’t as complicated as it looks – all it takes is a little practice and lipgloss. We went backstage with NARS Japanese regional lead artist, Haruna Moto and NARS Singapore senior makeup artist, Nigel Tan, to find out just how we can recreate the fresh and dewy look.

Step 1: Flawless looking skin

While you might not have an entourage of makeup artist at your disposal, you can still achieve luminous and glowing skin with the right products. Start by exfoliating your face with a toner and a cotton pad to slough away dead and tired layers of skin. After toning your face, follow up with an essence before layering your moisturiser. Apply a thin layer of tinted moisturiser with your fingertips to conceal any blemishes and imperfections.

Pro tip: Rather than dusting your entire face with translucent powder, only apply it on oil prone areas like the t-zone to set your makeup. Nigel also recommends lightly dusting loose powder with a small fluffy brush to set your under-eye concealer.

Step 2: Apply lipgloss on your lids

To get this “easy-to-achieve look that is suitable for all occasions”, Nigel starts by applying the lighter champagne shade from the NARS Isolde Duo Eyeshadow ($52) onto the lids. With a blending brush, sweep the darker bronze shade in the NARS Isolde Duo Eyeshadow ($52) into the crease. According to Nigel, the NARS blending brush, Artistry Brush 42, is a ‘must-have in his makeup arsenal”. Mix two shades in the NARS St Paul de Vence Duo Eyeshadow ($52) and line your bottom lashes and pop that colour into your inner corners with a small contour brush for an eye makeup look that works for both day and night.

Here comes the fun part! For a glossy finish, apply lip gloss on top of your eyeshadow by tapping it on with your fingers. To prevent your eye makeup from smudging, tightline your eyes with a smudge-proof eyeliner that wouldn’t budge even when it comes into contact with the gloss. Complete the look with a coat of mascara on your upper and lower lashes.

Pro tip: Keep your mascara and eyeliner from smudging by dusting some translucent powder on your lashes and eye area to help suppress oil.

Step 3: Kissable luscious lips

The makeup focus for this minimal and dewy look is full and luscious lips.  A glossy lip brings out all of the curves and dimensions of your lips. Gloss is also a saving grace for those with dry and chapped lips. With a light pink lip pencil, NARS Camargue Precision Lip Liner ($36) outlines your lips, connecting the peaks to create a rounded lip look. Next, with a light brown lip liner, NARS Hyeres Precision Lip Liner ($36), add dimension to your lips by outlining your lips and connecting the peaks. Go over your entire lips with a semi matte liquid lipstick, NARS Stripped Velvet Lip Glide ($40) that complements the colour of the pink lip liner. To create the illusion of fuller, plumper lips, apply a thin layer of pink lip gloss in the middle of your lips.

Pro tip: Prep your lips with a moisturising lip cream like the Kose Vague cream so your lipstick goes on smoothly.

Step 4: Sunkissed glow

Instead of packing it on, warm up your skin by lightly sweeping bronzer across the highest points of your cheeks. With a bigger brush, blend everything out for that natural kissed by the sun glow.
