A great way to repurpose a gorgeous candle you spent a fair amount of money on? Turn it into a makeup holder! Some of the most popular cult candles that have shown up in Instagram pictures across the globe include Damselfly and Diptyque candles. Both brands are available at Escentials stores in Singapore, and come in typically minimalist designs that pair perfectly with monochrome black and white vanities.
Here are some of my favourite candles on Instagram and cool ways to reuse them!

These are my go-to storage containers for makeup, partly because they’re well-made, and mostly because they’re dust-proof, minimalist and can be fully customised according to your own setup. I also prefer clear storage options as they let me see what makeup I have on hand, so I don’t forget about the products and discover them a year later. The one drawback of these sets from Muji is the price, which can set you back a bit depending on how much makeup you have. I do consider them a worthwhile investment though, as they’re easy to clean and do not scratch easily. I also use them to store my jewellery, since Muji also sells perfectly compartmentalised velvet inserts for its drawers.
Check out these Muji drawer setups below for some inspo!

The ever popular Lack shelf from IKEA is a feature in many a beauty room around the world. What makes them ideal is that they can go up just about anywhere, and in various sizes and configurations to boot. The “floating” element gives these shelves the minimalist vibe everyone’s after, and you can use them to display your prettiest skincare, makeup, or perfume bottles. It’s inexpensive too, and doesn’t require too much handiwork to cobble together. Just remember not to overload them with stuff, as they will sag under too much weight.
Check out these setups!

If you have lots of single eyeshadows lying about the place, you might want to remove them from their casing and put them all together in what is called a Z Palette. These flat palettes have a magnetic backing which allows most eyeshadow or blusher pans to stick to it with no worry, and gives you the opportunity to group your eyeshadows according to colour or theme, however you like it. The palettes come in various sizes and colours, and boast a see-through cover so you can look at all your makeup at a glance instead of having to “memorise” which shades are in each eyeshadow compact. Z palettes are the reason I prefer to buy single shadows from Mac Cosmetics or Makeup Geek instead of quads or trios or even singles that come in fussy packaging.

It’s important that my makeup is kept largely in closed containers, because Singapore has an unfortunate amount of dust hanging in the air. Traveling cases like this clear Sephora Traincase are perfect for both storing your makeup at home and taking it out with you, plus they’ll look great on any vanity. You can keep your most commonly used products in the top shelf, and the rest in the compartments below.
