By now, you should’ve noticed that the past couple of weeks were filled with scorching hot sunlight and little rainfall. Which explains why we’re always perspiring whenever we head outdoors.
Since we’re perspiring so much, it’s no wonder all the dirt, sweat and excess sebum have inevitably caused our makeup to streak ever so easily (horror!). And if you’re heading to the Floating Platform at Marina Bay tomorrow to celebrate National Day, we’re pretty sure the last thing you want is to see your makeup ‘melting’ off your face.
So, to help make your life easier — and your selfies prettier — we’ve consulted our trusted makeup artists to ask for their recommendations on long-lasting beauty products.
#1 Clarins Double Fix Mascara, $40
“I usually apply this before using another mascara and I love that it helps to lift the lashes, giving them a natural curled up look. It also dries pretty quickly so there’s no need to keep fanning your lashes after applying this.”
Shaun adds: “If you’d like to use it on the brows, I’d recommend using a brow pencil or powder first and follow up with this as a final step. It’ll give your brows a more defined look.”
#2 Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPG50+ PA++++, $18.90
“I recommend this sunscreen from Biore. Not only is it very affordable, it also has a strong SPF to shield your skin from the UV rays. It doesn’t feel sticky so it’s a great makeup base option too,” he explains.
#3 Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Colour Paint Extra Long Lasting Waterproof Shadow, $40
“Besides its long-staying powers, I also love this eye shadow because it can be applied on any parts of the face,” shares Peter.
“There are about 18 shades available so you’re free to pick one based on whatever you like. For National Day, I’ll recommend choosing one in red. Spread some over your eyes, cheeks and lips and you’re good to go!”
#4 YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick, $51
“This is my go-to whenever my private clients or brides request for a long wearing lip colour that’ll last throughout the night. Firstly, its scent is deliciously sweet but not too overpowering. When applied onto the lips, it leaves a strong stain that stays put incredibly well!”
Larry’s pro tip for making lip colours last longer? “Always moisturise your lips first. Then, blot away the excess lip balm before applying your lipstick. Leave the lipstick on for 10 minutes before dabbing any excess off.”
#5 L’Occitane Pivoine Sublime Skin Tone Perfecting Cream, $51
“The trick to ensuring that your makeup looks great in this insane heat is not to layer too much foundation on your face,” says Larry. “The good thing about this perfecting cream is that it evens out skin tone beautifully without leaving any ‘heavy’ feeling on the skin.”
“I’ll recommend using your fingers to spread this CC cream over your face. It helps to mask pores too, giving you a flawless complexion without any stickiness.”
