Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser
We try Chanel's Sublimage Essential cleanser and love its refreshing scent but we're confused by the washcloth![]() |
Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser, $120
The Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser was created to remove makeup and also cleanse your skin at the same time. The combination of sugar derivatives and oils makes it high-performance but gentle on the skin. The sugar derivatives dissolve impurities and makeup on the face and eyes. Included with the Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser is a cotton cloth – kind of like a very, very thin washcloth – that is used in combination with the cleanser to produce optimum cleansing and what Chanel calls a “unique sensorial experience”. |

I’m a great fan of Chanel makeup and skincare products, so was interested to try the Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser, particularly in mind of the amount of Chanel makeup I currently use. What strikes you on first use is the lovely scent; it’s a fresh mix of linden, lily of the valley, cyclamen and violet with a bit of vanilla and is quite refreshing. To use the Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser, you need to massage the gel-like product into your skin first – as you massage, the warmth of your skin transforms the gel into a fine oil and you can see the makeup being “lifted” off your skin. You then massage the oil into your eye area and eyelashes. After this, take the white cloth, moisten with warm water and place it over your face, kind of like a mask, then press against your skin. The warmth is supposed to stimulate and relax you. So far I’ve not been able to get the cloth to stay warm enough to see any major difference in the product or the experience. After being under the cloth; take it off and then wipe off the remained of the product and your “lifted” makeup. Then rinse with water. Basically all the fuss with the bit of cloth seems a bit of an overkill. You might as well be wiping off your cleaner with an ordinary cloth face washer, and the cloth itself doesn’t seem to make any difference as to whether or not the product works. Yes, the Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser takes off most of your makeup – especially if you’ve done the right thing and removed the majority of it with makeup remover. However it doesn’t shift everything; eye makeup in particular – including Chanel’s waterproof Stylo Yeux eyeliners – does not come off completely. I also feel a bit odd about using this cloth repeatedly without running it though a washing machine. It’s just not hygienic; a bit of a rinse under the shower or tap isn’t enough to remove all traces of product. And although you can ask for an extra cloth when you buy your next tube of cleanser, you can’t buy extra cloths. Despite these issues, however, the Chanel Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser is a lovely cleanser. It really does remove a lot of grime and impurities, leaving your skin feeling smooth; it’s not a drying cleanser at all and the scent is lovely. |
