Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color Spectrum, $32

Urban Decay’s lip colour of the future aims to combine lip liners, gloss and colour, all in one pencil. The Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color is said to be the creamiest, most sumptuously pigmented pencil to ever hit your lips.

Available in five dynamic shades, the Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color is loaded with nourishing plant derivatives such as Phytosterol, which promotes skin hydration, protects and even rejuvenates the delicate skin on our lips. The ultra-moisturising formula is also free of mineral oil and parafiin.

I was a tad sceptical before trying out this lip colour, and shrugged it off as just another lip pencil.

I’ve always figured that my slightly dry lips would need the tender loving care of a lip balm to soothe out the fine lines before I could ever try using a lip pencil.

Plus, bright lips are not really my thing, at least not until now.

I forgot my lip gloss one fine morning and being surrounded by bags full of beauty products, I decided to try the Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color Spectrum to add some colour to my all-black ensemble.

Anticipating what would be a dry crayon-like texture, I was surprised to find that the colour just glided on to my lips easily. It was smooth and moisturising at the same time, almost like applying a thick coat of lip balm, complete with colour and shine.

Being shaped like a pencil also made it even easier to handle and colour in the corners of my lips without smudging or going out of line.

I also appreciated the fact that even with the almost buttery feel on my lips, the colour pigments were saturated and intense enough to last throughout dinner, only fading off a little after some drinks.

Colours-wise, the aptly-named “Crush”, which was a bright hot pink that is oh-so-chic now, is the perfect fit for me, gaining me compliments whenever I wear it.

This pencil is definitely the answer to your previously lengthy lip routines. Just imagine how much time you’re going to save just by skipping out the steps of lining, glossing and then colouring.

The other shades like a bright orange cream named “Punch Drunk” and a bright fuschia sparkle named “Adrenaline” make for interesting colour choices as well.

Perhaps the only down side to this? The hassle of getting more of that awesome colour. When you’re almost done with your first layer, just like any coloured pencil, you will have to sharpen the pencil with a sharpener for more.

Other than that, you may very well call me a lip pencil convert.
