You’ve probably heard of collagen, a protein partly responsible for the bounciness and elasticity of your skin.

Maybe you’ve also heard of elastin, another protein that helps skin tissues resume their shape after stretching or contracting.

But have you heard of oxytalan fibres? They are another part of your skin that you might need to attend to.

Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido recently conducted extensive research of the oxytalan fibres, which can be found on the surface of smooth muscles and also help skin appear firmer and younger.

Despite being known to science since the late 50s, few beauty companies have spent resources on these fibres – until now.

“The oxytalan fibres control the quality of the skin,” says Guillaume Cappon, PR manager Shiseido Europe.

“The more oxytalan fibres, the better quality of the skin.”

According to Shiseido, the brand’s newest invention, the patent-pending Bio-Revitalizing Complex, reinforces the oxytalan fibres and promotes skin’s resilience and firmness.

It can be found in the Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream, that is best described as rich but not greasy.

The luxury cream rehydrates and softens skin well. However, people with oily skin might find it too rich. And while it might be a bit pricey, a little goes a long way.

Since the product just launched globally, few consumers have had the opportunity to benefit from its claimed qualities.

But since Shiseido was the first company to produce hyaluronic acid from non-animal origin sources - and still today provides over 400 companies with the popular skin care ingredient - nothing other than a top product is expected.
