Crystal Renn explains recent weight loss
Crystal Renn dismisses rumours that she's anorexic again; she says her active lifestyle keeps her happy and healthy
Crystal Renn has insisted she no longer lets her “body dictate” whether she is happy.
The model has been open about suffering an eating disorder in the past. When she got over it and started to put on weight, she became a plus size model and found she got far more work.
However, she has hit the headlines recently after being seen looking very slender at events. Crystal insists she is healthy and isn’t battling a reoccurrence of her problem.
“For me, this is not me being anorexic again. I find that where I am I just feel very, very good,” she told ET. “I don't let my body dictate whether I'm happy or not. The goal is to go live, and worry about the rest later.”
Crystal lost weight following a bad breakup. Although that time was tough, it actually led to something good.
The star decided to get away from it all for a while as she tried to heal, which helped her discover a more healthy way of life.
“When I was going through this whole thing my dream was to go to Patagonia and I wanted to go hiking and I wanted to see the glaciers. So I went with my grandmother and we did, we went for three weeks. It was a really intense three weeks – sometimes it was 15 hours hiking. I remember being on top of the glacier and thinking, ‘This is the kind of environment I want to be in. I’m being active, I’m being healthy, I feel very good.’ But I don’t see numbers or calories that I’m burning,” she recalled.
“I think it was a good introduction to a new healthy level in my recovery. It had been nine years since I had an eating disorder and there were a lot of times when I was scared of having an exercise plan.”
Crystal is keen to point out that although she might be slimmer than she was, she is not as thin as she was when she was ill. The star is now a US size 6, which is much bigger than some other girls in the industry.
“I have been every single size in fashion and I don’t think anybody else can say that. I’ve been a [US size] 00, children’s clothes, 95lbs. all the way up to a 16 and everything in between,” she said.
“So come to this place where I’m a 6 sometimes even a 10 depending what designer I’m in I’m directly in the middle, that’s an interesting place to be in fashion where extremes is the norm.”
