International jet-setting with Raoul
During the preview show of Singapore fashion label Raoul at Audi Fashion Festival 2011, it was clear from the get go that the Autumn Winter 2011 collection was all about jet-setting in the 60s.
A combination of sharp shapes, blocks of colour and neat leather accessories added up to images of Pan Am stewardesses in the 1960s, glamourous 70s superstars jet-setting around the world and modernist architecture.

According to the Raoul team, their influences were even more precise – “the elegant uniforms designed by Emilio Pucci for Braniff Airlines in the 60s and 70’s and the clean and fluid lines of the original 1960’s Pan Am terminal at JFK, designed by Ives, Turano & Gardner Associated Architects and Walter Prokosch of Tippets-Abbett-McCarthy-Stratton, particularly famous for its “flying saucer” roof.”
Raoul’s creative team even researched the work of Brazilian modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer – renowned for his work with Le Corbusier and the creation of Brasilia, a purpose built capital city for his homeland full of concave and convex domes.
Which is where the AW2011 advertising campaign images were shot with the assistance of New York-based, Brazilian photographer Marcelo Krasilcic.

Krasilcic and Raoul managed to get permission to shoot the campaign at Brasilia’s iconic National Congress, Cathedral and Palaces of Itamaraty and Planalto. On top of the location, Raoul chose three top Brazilian models – Aline Zanella, Camila Mongori and Bruno Gassen from Way Model in Sao Paolo – to complete the campaign.
The Raoul team describes the AW2011 advertising campaign as “dynamic and ambitious”; the images speak for themselves.
There’s a distinct modernist feel to the shapes and colours of the clothes and backgrounds, a hyper-reality to the images that imbues a feeling of “art” rather than advertising.
We have already raved about the AW2011 collection itself; these images just add to the overall cachet. Raoul is one Singapore fashion label that looks like it’s about to breakout internationally in a big way. Watch this space.
