What’s hot in Kpop this week
Jay Park TV: The singer has revealed an upcoming project on his Youtube channel -- a web series which will “detail [his] daily life, kicking it with friends, acting stupid”. Fans have also noticed some new tattoos on Jay Park in the oddly addictive teaser. Check it out here.
MTV World Stage with Jay Park, KARA: K-pop was a huge hit at MTV’s World Stage in Malaysia, with more than 16,000 people cheering on Malaysian songstress Mizz Nina, KARA who recently held their K5J showcase in Singapore, and Jay Park who ended the night with a sizzling finale of ten songs. Oh, and Justin Bieber performed too. Wonder if he saw this hilarious video with Jay Park/Ryan Higa/Wong Fu Productions? MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia will premiere on Starhub Channel 533, July 28 at 1.30pm.

PSY’s Gangnam Style is the boss of MVs this year: If you do one thing for yourself today, let it be watching this music video. The rapper and beloved host who will start his own record label next year, premiered the music video for his infectious single “Gangnam Style”. It will have you laughing while thinking “What is he doing?!”. Some favourites are him in the sauna wrapped only in a towel and another where he’s sitting on the toilet and rapping to the camera. It also features Yoo Jae Suk, 4Minute’s HyunA and Noh Hong Chul in equally irreverent setups.
G-Dragon’s on Twitter: In anticipation of his upcoming second solo album, G-Dragon has created his first Twitter account @IBGDRN , already gaining more than 260,000 followers in two days. The BIGBANG leader mentioned in a Twitter conversation with Taeyang that he has “no idea what any of this is” -- nice to know G-Dragon can’t figure out Twitter yet either, and to see the brotherly love between the two. He’s also revealed a picture of him in the studio with producer Verbal and a sneak peek into his photoshoot for the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar Korea.

SISTAR beats Super Junior: The girl group clinched the top spot in KBS’ Music Bank’s K Chart with “Loving U” trumping the seemingly unbeatable Super Junior. Even the three members present -- Hyorin, Dasom and Soyu looked shocked when the winner was announced, and they kneeled on the floor and bowed in a traditional Korean gesture of respect and thanks to fans.
Brown Eyed Girls, BAP release MVs: In a marked departure from their image in “Abracadabra”, BEG’s new title song “One Summer Night” is a sweet song about young love, complemented by a beautifully shot MV. Rookie group BAP, on the other hand, maintains their strong hiphop image with “No Mercy”.

Jung Ah is new leader of After School: After the “graduation” of Kahi, the members voted the next eldest member Jung Ah, who turns 29 on Aug 2, as the new leader. Upping the sexy factor, she revealed in In her appearance on variety show Strong Heart that she prefers younger men and once dated a man seven years her junior, while bandmate Lizzy chipped in with “She’s an expert when it comes to younger men.” We can see the young fanboys lining up already.
TigerJK, Bizzy and Wonder Girls’ Yubin perform together: TigerJK had his wish of wanting to work with the WG rapper come true with their rendition of “I Want You”on talkshow You and I. They were joined by his friend and rapper Bizzy. Although netizens are having mixed reactions to Yubin’s performance, saying it was awkward and unlike her upbeat self, we chalk it up to nervousness of sharing the stage with a hiphop legend and a veteran MC.
Rapper Lexy to release new album in August: The former YG Entertainment label signee made a splash with her solo effort LEXURY in 2003, debuting as Korea’s first solo female rapper. Later albums couldn’t match the success of her first, and she eventually left YG (although rumour has it that it was due to her breakup with YG producer Teddy). Things are looking up for Lexy and under new management, she’s set to show idol rappers how it’s really done with her comeback next month. Check out one of her previous singles “Let Me Dance”.
