With eager eyes and credit cards at the ready, we fashion lovers wait impatiently for the new season shows to find out what is THE next big thing to buy.  This include apparel and accessories of course, for we all know a good pair of shoes and the right handbag can make or break your outfit.  With this in mind, we want to find the best of the best handbags to add to our closet for this fall.

1. The Cutest: Fendi’s owl-faced Monster Baguettes

The Monsters, a bunch of furry (real, not faux) bug-like bag charms have been a monstrous hit for the Italian brand since they were introduced in 2013. The owl was one of them, and has since moved on to a starring role on the Baguette – first the original, then the mini, and now, the micro (so twee, it only holds a lipstick and a card case!).

In calf leather, $2,660 from Fendi at Takashimaya Shopping Center, Ngee Ann City , #01-30/32, Singapore 238872.

2. The Part 2: Celine’s Clasp

The range debuted in March this year with three styles – a gigantic shoulder number, a cross-body, and a ladylike handbag – and it was one of the most unexpectedly coveted item of the season. Unlike any of the French label’s bags, you have to pay for a Clasp, in full, before you get it and then, receive it two months after.

This, the Soft Medium, one of three variations from its second edition, is a hybrid of the Clasp (measuring at 1cm!) and the brand’s utilitarian Trio. It has softer and longer shoulder straps and opens up and spreads out accordion style, giving you three compartments (one compartment has a zip closure) like the Trio.

In calf leather, $4,350 from at #01-28/29 Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Ngee Ann City, 01-28/29, Singapore 238883.

3. The Medallion: Marc Jacobs’ Hotshot

With its ‘hip-hop meets soul’ influence (cue the double J-logo and thick gold chain), this bag is a wannabe rapper’s delight. On the runway, it’s worn proudly and loudly as a neck-bag, yes, you did read right. A bag that’s also a necklace...whatever next. We highly recommend it for real life to carry your iPhone 7+, a card case and a lipstick.

In calf leather, $500 from Paragon Shopping Centre, 290 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238859.

4. The Vintage: Christian Dior’s back-from-the-’70s logo canvas

This one isn’t literally from the archive but it’s a recreation with the exact canvas design from its first ever launch. To make it even more authentic, it’s manufactured in its original birthplace, Belgium.

The only modern touch: The calfskin leather trim is now tanned using minerals and vegetables for a wrinkle-free structured leather that develops a beautiful patina the more you knock it around. We also call it the ultimate working girl bag.

In leather, $4,300 from #01-07/08, Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Ngee Ann City, 391 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238872.

5. The Triangle: Balenciaga’s latest collectible

For those who crave something unique, creative director Demna Gvasalia’s reference for these bags? Ski boot bags. The brand’s brand on the Triangle is made of individually laser cut leather alphabets that are inserted into each bag.

Duffle bag in calfskin, $2,070, and pochette in calfskin, $530 from Balenciaga at #01/07, Paragon Shopping Centre, 290 Orchard Road, Singapore 238859

6. The Customisable: Gucci’s Totems

This season, it comes with detachable pouches that have rings and hooks. On their own, each is a clutch or a cross-body. When three are combined, they become anything you want, with up to 15 permutations. Totem pouch in canvas leather with fabric strap, $1,280.

In calf leather, $1,660 and $1,540 respectively from Gucci at #01/38, Paragon Shopping Centre, 290 Orchard Road, Singapore 238859.

7.  The Star: Saint Laurent’s Tuxedo Box

The Tuxedo – introduced earlier this year – is artistic director Anthony Vaccarello’s first bag for the fashion house, and it’s a homage to the first Le Smoking tux made for women by YSL. For Fall, it gets four upgrades: printed with cars, multicoloured snakeskin with an embossed panther, or with an embossed star either in black or black and silver.

In leather, $5,580. from Saint Laurent at #01/25, Ion Orchard 2 Orchard Turn, Singapore 238801.
