fashion trend androgynous style Dolce & GabbannaThink brogues and braces, shirts and suit jackets, tuxedos and trilbies – and you’re well on your way to unearthing your inner masculinity.

Dolce & Gabbana showcased the androgynous aesthetic on their Fall Winter 2011 runway. The designer duo revealed that singer Annie Lennox was their inspiration behind the edgy look.

“We love Annie’s look because she is self-ironic and a chameleon, thanks to her strong personality,’ said Stefano Gabbana.

The luxe label sent models strutting down the catwalk in an array of mannish designs. Black tailored suit jackets teamed with more feminine floaty white dresses made for an interesting antithesis.

The look was finished off with a cravat which added to the masculinity. The classic tuxedo was also a firm favourite on the designers’ catwalk.

Paul Smith showed models in collegiate styles with loose pants, blazers and button-up shirts, the look made more feminine with touches of sheer fabrics.

Other labels like Ann Sofie Back took to the minimal trend with structured, menswear shapes, while Margaret Howell also borrowed trilby hats, over-sized blazers and baggy trousers from menswear to showcase the androgynous trend.

The androgynous trend has been influenced by a host of famous faces, including Anjelica Huston, Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli.

For the perfect androgynous aesthetic team edgy, masculine pieces with more feminine designs.

For the less daring fashionistas among us, try adding accessories to update your look, including leather gloves, a trilby, or an over-sized blazer. © COVER MEDIA
