When Celine walked fur-lined sandals (better known as ‘furkenstocks’) down the runway at its spring 2013 show, we were positively intrigued. Gucci too launched its fur-lined backless loafers for its Fall 2015 collection that got so popular, even our favourite Singapore fashionistas are wearing them. Now it looks like this “ugly-chic” shoe trend is here to stay – thanks to the Ugg x Teva (surprisingly) magical collaboration.
With what sounded like a formula for a fashion disaster, we are actually digging the look! The sandals look oh so comfy, contemporary and adorably quirky that we’re finding them hard to resist. We are feeling the same tickle we did when we first saw Celine’s furkenstocks with the new Ugg x Teva collab, instantly earning it our fashion seal of approval.
So, you can imagine our excitement when we spotted yet another quirky ‘ugly shoe’ collaboration on the runways of London Fashion Week for Spring 2017. Can you believe that CROCS! (about which fashion guru Tim Gunn once said: “I can't imagine a more aesthetically offensive item of footwear than Crocs”) are now cool?!?
Yes, the epitome of Cool Britania, designer Christopher Kane, got on board with the ugly-chic shoe trend with his Spring 2017 collaboration with Crocs and the jewel embellished versions in patent black were all over social media as soon as they hit the runway.
The fashion world has been continuously surprising us with trend after trend this year… What on earth will be next?
