Be oh-so-fashion ultra in these romper looks, ready for this weekend’s Ultra Music Festival

Flower crowns and bindis are so passe, this season - it’s all about bringing something different to the table

For the uninitiated, the Ultra Music Festival is considered one of the biggest event of the year in the dance industry. Originating from Miami back in 1999, it has since expanded its presence in many other countries including Korea, India, Croatia, South Africa and...our little island too. Each year, iconic DJs come together to give you the best night ever. From big names in trance like Armin Van Buuren to up-and-coming DJ, Andrew Rayel, Ultra Music Festival has become a night not to be missed for electronic dance music lovers.

Singapore’s first-ever taster of Ultra was back in 2015 with the Road to Ultra series, before finally landing the inaugural Ultra Music Festival in 2016. Second year in running, we’re now one day away from all that dancing. This year’s line-up sees big acts like veteran DJ Dash Berlin, Tiesto, Hardwell and more. Plus, local supporting artists like Myrne, Jasmine Sokko and even Indonesian rapper Rich Chigga will be there too. All hyped up for tomorrow? That bodes well for what’s in store.

But before the carnage kicks off, you need to get your festival-game on with your planned ensemble. More than just looking picture perfect for the #OOTDs, it’s about standing out from the crowd, melding style with comfort. After all, raving from 1pm until nighttime means you need something cool and easy to be in.

May we suggest, for the basis of such an ensemble, a romper? Did you know, rompers are not a new modern idea, oh no. They were initially created to be light and loose fitting for children as playwear back in 19th Century Victorian era. Ideal for breathable movement, they quickly caught on. Around 1950s, their popularity peaked and women started adapting rompers for leisure and beach wear. The rest is fashionable history.

So ditch the usual cropped top, denim shorts, flower crowns and switch it up with some stylized rompers. To shave you some time, we’ve collated five different styles of weekend rompers complete with accessories that are perfect for this weekend’s music festival.  Enjoy!

Vintage

Crafted from cotton-pique, this playsuit by Reese Witherspoon is darted along the bust and waist, which really flatters your figure. Think the romper is too stiff? Look again. The spliced wrap back adds a playful touch, giving you more room for movement. We love the floral motif against the sky blue colour - exuding a thoroughly vintage look. Complete the look with a heart-shaped cat-eye shades that work nicely with the floral prints. Complete with an alphabet hair slide with a tousled hairdo.

Draper James Cut-out floral print cotton-piqued playsuit, $250 from Net-a-porter

Lelet Ny Monno gold-plated hair slide, $64 from Net-a-porter

Saint Laurent LouLou cat-eye acetate sunglasses, $459 from Net-a-porter

Sporty

The sporty fashion is so on trend and if you’re already a big fan, try out Rcva’s relaxed playsuit. Slouchy and relaxed, emulate the athleisure look by pairing with sneakers. Forget the cliche flower crown or body chain and throw on a baseball cap with a twill silk twill scarf tied around your neck for a sporty-meets-classy look.

Rvca relaxed romper playsuit in fine stripe, $107.75 from Asos

Adidas original logo cap in black, $32.33 from Asos

Marc Jacobs printed silk twill scarf, $119 from Net-a-porter

Beach

Ultra Music Festival may not be on a beach but it is held along Marina Bay, so you could still get away with a plunging beach romper. Flagpole’s Francine playsuit is cut from a soft modal-blend French terry and trimmed with the label’s SPF jersey along the shoulders, meaning it is super snug to be in and it protects you from getting burnt while you’re under the sun. Pair it with a chevron grey lace bralet and a matching suede cap to shield you from all that UV rays.

Flagpole Francine jersey trimmed French terry playsuit, $324 from Net-a-porter

Cosabella Ceylon stretch-lace soft-bra cup, $57 from Net-a-porter

Rag & Bone Marilyn suede baseball cap, $149 from Net-a-porter

Dress up

A romper designed by Kendall and Kylie Jenner, you’ll be sure to turn heads with their romper. Loose fitting with a low-cut lace-up arm hole, the playsuit ends with a stylized flutter hem. We love the striking neoprene orange colour that lends a vibrant yet polished look. Put your hair up in a sleek ponytail with the lliade hair tie for an added elegance from the delicate gold fringe tassel. If you want to wear a pair of earrings, make sure they’re small and subtle, in order to not clash with the hair tie.

Kendall + Kylie Flutter lace-up romper, $260.76 from Asos

Rosantica Illiade fringed gold-tone hair tie, $109 from Net-a-porter

Limited Edition multi ball hoop earrings, $12.93 from Asos

Casual

Go for the casual get-up with Vix’s Marion playsuit in pastel-pink. Made from a breezy linen-blend, detailed with embroidered rope trims that traces the wrap-effect front and a slit back, we suggest teaming this with a bold headband, like the Gucci oriental-inspired one. Complement all of that with swanky pink cat-eye reflective shades and you’re good to go.

Vix Marion wrap-effect linen-blend playsuit, $205 from Net-a-porter

Gucci twisted jacquard headband, #377 from Net-a-porter

Quay Australia My Girl sunglasses, $86.20 from Asos
