Shoppers spend S$831 million at GSS
Most shopaholics love a sale; and in Singapore, it seems like there’s more of them than ever before.
Within the first month of this year’s Great Singapore Sale (GSS), Singaporean and tourist Mastercard shoppers have already spent US$676.6 million (approximately S$831 million).

This marks an impressive increase of 49 per cent, when compared to the sales figures of the same period in 2010.
From May 27 to June 25, 2011, Singaporean Mastercard cardholders have spent US$450.3 million ‒ that’s a whooping 52 per cent more than last year.
While Singaporean shoppers made up the bulk of this sales figure increase, the expenditure of foreign Mastercard cardholders has gone up by 43 per cent as well.
As with last year’s figures, visitors from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and the United States continue to be the biggest spenders at the first month of the 2011 GSS.
Singaporeans and foreign cardholders have also made the best of ongoing restaurant promotions; dining is still the top spending category in the May to June period for both the 2010 and 2011 GSS.
The Great Singapore Sale ends on July 24 this year. Visit www.greatsingaporesale.com.sg for information on ongoing promotions, late night shopping, the SPH Shop & Win Draw and more.
