New Ice-cream Creations by Häagen-Dazs
Ever heard the saying “life is short, eat dessert first”? Those words will ring true once you’ve taken a look at Häagen-Dazs’ new menu featuring tempting ice-cream creations, drinks and cakes.
Exquisite and detailed, just like the real deal. The new Sushi Platter from Häagen-Dazs is a work of art in itself, and an edible one at that. It may sound gross (raw fish and rice in a dessert?), but relax in the knowledge that the “sushi” in question is made entirely out of ice-cream.
How the sushi pieces are made
Each type of sushi undergoes a different assembling process. Around 42 sets are made daily by the 8-person Innovation team at Cake Kitchen, to be sent out to the 13 (excluding the Hilton sidewalk café) Häagen-Dazs outlets in Singapore.
Mango sorbet sushi: The slice of “salmon” resting on top of the vanilla ice-cream masquerading as rice is made from freezing alternating layers of vanilla ice-cream and mango sorbet on top of each other, one by one. This painstaking procedure takes an entire day to complete, but the end result is enticingly realistic.
Strawberry/ Kiwi Gunkan: The chocolate casing that surrounds the base layer of ice cream starts off as mildly warmed liquid chocolate, which is spread over a plastic sheet and wrapped around the wedge of ice-cream. It is then frozen for a few hours before the plastic is peeled off to reveal a firm chocolate (or “seaweed”) wall that holds in the fresh strawberry/ kiwi bits. A similar method is used to create the strip of chocolate holding the Mango & Passion Fruit sushi together.

Another chocolate treat comes in the form of an ice-cream drink - Café Belgian Mocha ($11), a rich combination of Belgian chocolate ice cream, steamed milk, whipped cream, chocolate fudge and a shot of steaming espresso.
