October seems to be the month of booze. Not only is Oktoberfest a popular time to enjoy giant mugs of foamy German beer, Halloween is another excuse to get drinking. But, unknown to many, October is also the peak month for wine festivals and events. You can appreciate wine, be educated on its origins... and let's be honest – have a legit reason to get drunk. We've compiled four exciting wine events where you can attend, whether you're a complete newbie or full blown wine connoisser.

1) Wine Fiesta

Wine Fiesta is the biggest wine festival to be held in Singapore, with over 300 wine labels to sample from, and 60 participating winemakers from around the world who will be more than happy to share their insights on wine to you.

The setting is pretty casual, with the festival taking place outdoors near the bay area, live music bands and DJs, and 'wine circles' -- groups circles where you sit on wooden crates with winemakers and a bottle of wine in the middle that you can help yourself to.

All that alcohol is bound to make you hungry too, so order some ala carte dishes from renowned Singapore-based chefs who will create gourmet dishes to match the different wines. Chefs include Andrew Baldus from Meat Smith, Felix Chong from Monti, and Petrina Loh from Morsels.

Where: Clifford Square, beside Fullerton Bay Hotel

When: 27 - 29 October 2017

How much: $45 per ticket, $99 for three

Tickets are now available through SISTIC, Eventbrite and all eight Straits Wine retail stores islandwide.

2) Metro Wine Fair

Metro Wine Fair is where you should be going if you're new to wines and want a more chill environment where you can try accessible wines from $15 to $150. If you've always loved the taste of wine, but can't tell good wine from bad ones, don't quite know how to identify different flavour notes in the wine, or know how this alcohol is made, the wine appreciation workshops are a great space to start learning more.

The workshop costs only $25, and you'll receive a $20 voucher to purchase a bottle of wine at the end of it, too. Sweet deal, right? You have a pretty good variety of wines to select from, as Metro will be stocking on critically acclaimed wines from famous vineyards in Spain, Australia, France and Chile.

Where: Metro Centrepoint, Level 4

When: 12 and 22 October 2017

How much: Free entry, $25 for workshop (with complimentary $20 voucher)

Head to www.metro.com.sg to reserve a place

3) Ginett's Wine Class

If you already know all the basics about wine tasting, but wanna level up your game by learning about how the origins of the wine affects the flavour profile, or the how-tos of tasting methodologies, sign up for this wine class.

It will be hosted by French wine connoisseur Yves Soudy, who will teach you about the nuances of different French wines.

The class costs $65++, and you will be tasting 7 Frech labels with curated pairings, such as the Cote Rotie Promesse Pichon, a red wine that is paired with black chocolate truffles, or Sancerre Raimbault, a white wine to be appreciated with prawns carpaccio.

This is definitely not for the person who wants to go all out and taste over a hundred types of wines, it's for the person who wants to ponder a wine, understand its origins, and have access to an expert who would be best able to answer all your questions about the selection.

Where: Ginett Restaurant & Wine Bar

When: 17 and 19 October 2017, 7pm

How much: $65++ per person

Register by calling 6809 7989 or emailing ginettsg@randblab.com

The Food and Wine Festival, organised by AccorHotels, is an unprecedented wine event. Over 40 bars and restaurants are working together to provide promotions, delicious food, booze, and wine pairings. The festival won't be happening in one particular location, but across all the different eateries.

What makes this festival different though, is the passport, in which you collect stamps every time you spend at least $20 on a Food & Wine Festival set menu at a participating restaurant or bar. Three stamps in your passport will reward you with a food voucher, 6 will give you a chance to win a staycaytion, and 9 chops mean you might win a vacation to Paris or Sydney.

Be sure to maximise your chances by paying via Mastercard to get an extra chop with every purchase. AccorHotel members can get an extra chop too, meaning you can earn up to three chops at one go and receive a food voucher with just one purchase. Wanna participate? Find out more info on the official website.
