Known for hosting reality TV programmes including Hell's Kitchen, MasterChef, Hotel Hell and more, the Michelin-starred chef had accepted the SingTel Food Challenge on July 24. Invited by SingTel and a group of local bloggers, the celebrity chef will take on Singapore hawkers in a battle to cook the best local dishes.
The food contest will pit him against three hawker chefs, who will be selected by public voting on www.hawkerheroes.com. Voting closes on Tuesday, July 2, at 11.59 PM.
In his official acceptance video, Gordon Ramsay admits that he's "not an expert on Singapore food", he believes that Singaporeans will “like (his) version better.”
When we'd last checked the website at 10am on Friday, the hawkers of Eng Ho Fried Hokkien Mee, 328 Katong Laksa and Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice were leading the race.
While local fans of the chef are hyped about his upcoming visit, some of the competing hawkers have no clue as to who Gordon Ramsay is.
Speaking to The New Paper, bak kut teh stall owner Gwee Guek Hwa, 55, had said in Mandarin: “I’ve never heard of Gordon Ramsay. Is he Singaporean?”
