Review: We love Samsung's WB850F Smart Camera
Want to take photos with more precision than your smartphone gives you, but also don’t want the hassle of downloading and then re-uploading all your images to your social media?
If your answer to this question is a resounding “yes!”, then you need to get your hands on a smart camera; that’s right, you can now do all your tweeting, facebooking and blogging directly from your handy digital camera.

The Samsung WB850F Smart Camera (pictured above), for example, allows you to instantly save and share your photos to Facebook, Picasa or to email them to yourself for all your other social media needs. You can even immediately upload your videos to YouTube!
And if you’re a Galaxy user you can also download a special Remote Viewfinder ap and use it to direct your camera from afar – yes, you can now take group shots with you in them without all those fuzzy shots of your back as you run to join your friends for the photo.
But even better … you can upload all your images directly to your online “cloud” service; this way you don’t have to panic about running out of memory cards or having to tediously download you photos everyday – especially useful when you’re on holidays.
If you like playing around with your photos, the Samsung WB850F Smart Camera has also got some really cool tools to fiddle around with like the Cartoon filter – so all your friends look like they’re in an Anime clip, or the Ink Painting and Half Tone Dot filters that give you great effects. It’s like having your own personal Instagram.
In fact, this camera is a veritable entertainment centre in its compact body. You can take films, insert images into your clips, or run two images together and there’s a wide-angle function for panorama shots with a preview function.

The “smart” mode of the camera makes taking well-lit images with it's built-in flash almost foolproof, it gives you the option of multiple “focus points” too so you can decide which bit to highlight in the overall shot; the 21x optical zoom is also super functional as there’s no need to worry about changing lenses for close-ups or long-distance shots.
With 16.2 megapixels and the upload function, the Samsung WB850F Smart Camera is perfect for taking on holidays; you’ll be able to take as many photos as could ever wish for.
And if you’re one of those technical types who prides themselves on their manual photo-taking skills, the Samsung WB850F Smart Camera even has a “Full Manual Mode” where you can fix your own settings with Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority for depth-of-field and shutter speeds.
After using this camera for a week on a recent trip, I was blown away by the sheer amount of stuff it can do. For a compact camera the Samsung WB850F Smart Camera is practically as good as a “prosumer” or semi-professional camera that costs a lot more, and worse, weighs a tonne.
These days when just about everyone has a Facebook page and basic PhotoShop skills, you really only need a camera that can take good clear shots, but with the Samsung WB850F Smart Camera you can also do all the fun and fancy bits.
We are giving away 3 Samsung WB850F Smart Cameras worth $599 each to herworldPLUS members this month! Go to Win Samsung Smart Camera worth $599 to sign up and enter to win.
