Samsung previews transparent and flexible tablet WATCH: Samsung teases with video of a transparent and flexible concept device

Samsung previews transparent and flexible tabletSamsung is teasing a transparent and flexible concept device via a promotional video (in Korean) that shows off how such technology could revolutionize mobile devices in the future.

While it’s easy to pass the video off as a far-fetched concept that will never make its way to the public, Samsung has already shown off early iterations of flexible and transparent display concept devices.

Visitors to the 2011 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) might have seen Samsung’s 19" transparent AMOLED display and a shatterproof 4.5" flexible display at the Samsung Mobile Display.

Nokia showed off a prototype of its own flexible display mobile technology, called the Kinetic during Nokia World in October.

Nokia and Samsung are both planing to release gadgets with flexible displays, some of which could arrive on the market as early as 2012.

The next-generation display technologies both companies are developing could eventually be used to make thin and flexible wearable devices that move with your body and respond to bends, flexes and squeezes.

The video of Samsung’s Flexible, morphing AMOLED tablet, which was spotted by OLED-Info.com, shows the Samsung device being used to display 3D holographic images. It also shows how next-generation tablets will use augmented reality and NFR-like technologies to share information.

Expect to see further examples of transparent and flexible display technology during the 2012 edition of CES in January. -- AFP RELAXNEWS
