Shine Festival 2017

This year’s Shine Festival is headlined by K-pop sensation Jessica Jung, alongside a great line-up of local artists such as The Sam Willows, Shigga Shay, Lin Ying and more.

So what exactly is the Shine Festival? It is a nationwide festival in Singapore initiated by youths, for youths, that aims to showcase and develop young talent. Other than concerts and live shows, there’s a whole slew of activities taking place. This year, the Shine Festival is happening along Orchard Road, from ION Orchard to *SCAPE. You can channel your inner Picasso with bae as you explore the Digital Canvas tunnel. Or let him know who’s boss by taking part in a gaming showdown and trashing him, of course. Feeling peckish? Check out the Insta-worthy food by the Food Truck Nation area.

USA Day Party

If Tanjong Beach Club’s Stripes and Star isn’t your kind of thing, maybe you’ll enjoy the USA Party Day hosted by Meatsmith, where there will be a mash-up of American Southern classics (read: fried chicken galore) and Chinese soul food (popular Chinese food found in America).

With guest chefs Chris Lin and Howard Lafour, you can expect bourbon cocktails and beers on tap. Here’s a little background on both of them: The former started early in the restaurant scene and has worked with David Chang at Momofuku Ssam Bar and Momofuku Ko before meeting Howard. The latter was born in Singapore and spent his first seven years here before he moved to Nebraska, worked in successful kitchens like Citronelle under French master chef Michel Richard and in Cypress under Craig Diehl. Then, the two met and started a joint venture; Q House.

With such an impressive kitchen resume, this Sunday’s meaty festival is one not to be missed for ‘carnivores’.
