Where to go to prepare for Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is just around the corner! Here are a list of events before and during the 15-day festival that you can go to to prepare for and celebrate the festive season

SPRING IN WHIMSY AT TRIPLEONE SOMERSET
TripleOne Somerset transforms into an arts house, with exciting arts exhibitions and events lined up during the Year of the Horse. Catch Ron Wong on January 18, where the Singapore artist will paint a horse sculpture live for all to see, or join a public colouring contest, where two winners will be chosen to be showcased in the mall itself. Giveaways and contests will also be taking place during this period of time, where you can win cash vouchers and even an iPad air, so do head down to the mall for a chance to win these prizes.

“DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER” CHINESE NEW YEAR ARTISAN FAIR
Head down to Lock+Store at Tanjong Pagar for a Chinese New Year artisan fair, where you can buy unique and lavish lo-hei platters made by ceramists Michelle Lim and Ng Seok Har, or get ornamental glass balls and needleworks. You can also do good this festive season by purchasing silk scarves and accessories for charity to help Cambodian street kids in their education and daily life as well.

FIREWORKS AT MARINA BAY
Fireworks are all the hype during the festive season. Head down to the SkyPark and Event Plaza at Marina Bay Sands with your family this year for the best vantage points to view the splendid fireworks display by the river.

SEA AQUARIUM
Always wanted to celebrate Chinese New Year underwater? You can do that now – sort of! SEA Aquarium will be extending its opening hours from 9am to 9pm during Chinese New Year for all those who want to celebrate the festive season there. Performances involving festive drums, street acrobatics and stilt walkers will entertain you at the Waterfront promenade, and you can even see divers swimming around and presenting you with scroll blessings right inside the aquarium.

CULTURAL PERFORMANCES
To showcase the energy and joyous spirit of Chinese New Year, award-winning Chinese performance art troupes will be performing every week at VivoCity’s amphitheatre. From wushu showcases to comical and cheerful opera performances and daredevil acrobatics, you can feel the festive spirit and energy at every performance leading up to Chinese New Year.

ARTS AND CRAFT BOOTHS
80 Chinese artisans will be gathering at VivoCity for one whole month to showcase traditional Chinese arts and crafts from China. The booths will include a wide range of arts, including jade carvings, flour sculptures, porcelain arts and more. If you’re looking for traditional decor to brighten up your house this Chinese New Year, these booths will give you all you need to give your apartment a traditional makeover.

TRADITIONAL LION DANCE PERFORMANCE
Chinese New Year will not feel the same without lion dance performances and loud drum beats to accompany them. Usher in luck and prosperity for the New Year with impressive performances by the award-winning Stamford Dragon Lion Arts and Cultural Troupe at The Plaza at VivoCity this year.

A VIVACIOUS CELEBRATION
Chinese New Year mascots will be making their rounds around AMK Hub this year to bless you with prosperity and good health. Get into the festive cheer with the affable Fu Lu Shou mascots and receive chocolate gold coins from them, and meet the God of Fortune as well and maybe even get the chance to dance with him! This will be a great chance for your family to bond during the Chinese New Year, so don’t miss out on it.

We all wish for great wealth and blessings every Chinese New Year.
