BAPE goes bananas for Andy Warhol
You can always count on A Bathing Ape for coming up with something quirky and eccentric. This time, the Japanese streetwear brand has drawn inspiration from Pop Art godfather Andy Warhol for a series of one-of-a-kind, peelable banana cushions.
These Camo Banana Cushions, the result of a three-way collaboration between BAPE, Andy Warhol and Medicom Toy Life Entertainment, are a plush interpretation of Warhol’s ubiquitous banana icon, originally created as album art for The Velvet Underground’s debut record in 1967.
On the outside, the cushions just seem like larger-than-life Warhol bananas. However, like the real bananas, you can peel back these pillows to reveal BAPE’s trademark camouflage pattern on the inside.
Available in two colours – either a green or pink inner camouflage print – these cushions come in three sizes: 60cm ($259), 94cm ($369) and 124cm ($519), with the pink BAPE camo print cushion only available in the 60cm size.
So if you’re a Warhol fan or a lover of all things BAPE, these stylish Camo Banana Cushions may just replace your teddy bear as your new favourite huggable plush toy.
The BAPE x Andy Warhol Camo Banana Cushions are available at the BAPE store at #02-02/03 Mandarin Gallery, 333A Orchard Road. For more information, visit www.bape.com
