For Twihards, this year’s MTV Movie Awards was just another anticipation-fuelled night of seeing their favourite stars appear on stage and win award after award.
For others, it was instead a chance to watch celebrities do crazy things on stage; think Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake in their on-stage gropefest and Jim Carrey in a head-to-toe chroma green suit.
For us fashion people, we kept an eagle eye on the red carpet arrivals, to suss out who was wearing whom, who looked the best and of course, whose outfit sank.
Here’s our top five best and worst dressed list at the MTV Movie Awards 2011.
It’s no surprise that this Gossip Girl star is on our best dressed list. Glowing (literally!) in a sparkly Balmain number, Queen B’s position at the top of the fashion totem pole is unshakeable.
What’s not to like about this? Fresh, youthful and yet so elegant, this two-piece outfit from Giambattista Valli suits the angelic starlet to a T. Now, only if she had this much good taste in men.
We like how Emma always goes for the classy, sophisticated dress that shows off her short pixie do so perfectly. This time, resplendent in a short Marchesa dress with an embellished neckline, we think she’s definitely got it right.
While this D&G floral romper and printed wedges might seem a tad too casual for a red carpet event, we think it is age-appropriate for 13-year-old Elle Fanning; who was probably the only guest who could wear a romper to an awards show and get away with it.
This Ina Soltani dress worn by MTV’s Teen Wolf Crystal Reed can go either way. Either it elevates the celebrity wearing it to the top of best-dressed lists or it flounders at the dismal end of worst-dressed lists. On perky Crystal, this is super adorable. We like!
There’s a reason why it was hard to find out who Nicki was wearing. That’s because she wasn’t really wearing anything at all. Instead, the fashion disaster was in a Victoria Secret’s push-up bra under an Atelier Versace buckled vest that frankly made her look like a trashier version of a hooker. We don’t understand how she can fail to see what a complete mess she looks like.
If something reminds us of a shower curtain right off the bat, it probably won’t fare well on the style stakes. Even though this jumpsuit is by can’t-go-wrong American label Alice + Olivia, we think Jessica would have been better off with something that showed off her gorgeous gams.
Did we miss something or did Amanda Bynes get immortalised into a Muppet on Sesame Street without anyone realising? Not only is her hair and makeup way too overdone, her too-tight Herve Leger dress and hideous turquoise tasselled platform heels made her look like a modern day Miss Piggy come to life.
This Zac Posen leopard print dress is such a snoozefest we were surprised to see the bubbly and usually stylish Reese Witherspoon in it. In fact, this dress does nothing for Reese at all despite the not-too-bad sweetheart neckline and fitted bodice. Too bad about how blah it is.
There’s nothing essentially wrong with this safety pin Balmain dress, even though it reminds us of a walking magnet. Our real problem lies with how Kristin is always in something red, short and tight. Come on, some variety please!
