Chanel's ambiguous metamorphoses
Chanel’s Ready-To-Wear Autumn Winter 2011-12 pre-collection has just started arriving in Singapore stores and, as usual, the hero pieces are sure to sell out almost immediately.
Echoing the runway show earlier this year, the “Evanescent Metamorphoses” concept created by Karl Largerfeld for the collection – the ambiguity of the masculine and feminine were highlighted by androgynous, boyish looks of trousers and jackets morphing into delicate chiffon and embroidered gowns.

As the creative director of Chanel, Karl also created a short film of the same name staring model Kristina Salinovic in a dreamy landscape as she becomes increasingly feminine through a series of metamorphoses.

The pre-collection pieces that are now arriving offer and interesting entry point into the collection as a whole – the shoes are the flat “chimney sweep” boots with wool or tweed turn-downs over leather lace-ups; the bags range from practical canvas totes to a python bag with an embossed turtle shell effect and a gold-silver patent leather Mademoiselle bag; while the jewellery includes a delicate gold-metal necklace with pearls, strass – a special kind of glass crystal – and chains.

Shots of red turn up in a pair of leather and knit short boots and a whole series of “i-bags” – small leather goods created to house iPhones and iPads.

As an introduction to the AW11-12 Ready-To-Wear collection, these first few pieces point to a range of garments, shoes and accessories that will suit any number of styles. Once again, Kaiser Karl has managed to created a commercially successful collection that will have shoppers lining up outside the Chanel boutiques’ doors.
Pieces from Chanel’s Ready-To-Wear Autumn Winter 2011-12 pre-collection is now available in Singapore from Chanel boutiques located at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and Takashimaya Shopping Centre.
