Each year, the United Nations Development Fund for Women, better known as UNIFEM, hosts a pre-loved designer clothing sale called Buy To Save.

The UNIFEM Buy To Save sale is a two-day event with donated designer items; last year’s sale saw donations from local celebrities like Nadya Hutagalung, Beatrice Chia, as well as well-known fashion industry insiders, like the editors of Female, Her World and NuYou.

This year’s line-up of celebrity donors isn't too shabby either, with donations from actress Debra Teng, media starlet Jesseca Liu, jazz singer Rani Singam and Channel News Asia anchor Timothy Go.

As always, the list of brands that make up the sale items are impressive, boasting labels like Lanvin, Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang and more.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards Star Shelter, a part of the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations that provides a refuge for women and their children who are victims of family abuse, Andrew & Grace Home for troubled youths, as well as the Beautiful People mentoring program for teenage girls.

While we don’t need that much convincing to purchase designer items for a steal (and for a good cause to boot), it can be hard to carry off that high-end, high-street look that ‘It’ girl Alexa Chung does so well. After all, we don’t all have designer garb-filled closets.

In light of that, we rounded up five uber stylish young women, Iliata, Priscilla, Eileen and two UNIFEM youth ambassadors, Mellisa and Marisse, to show us how they would style an outfit with pieces from their own wardrobes – in other words, that perfect high-low mix every one of us can be inspired by.

The UNIFEM Buy To Save 2011 sale will take place on December 3 and 4, from 10am to 5pm, at Suntec City Convention Centre, Level 3, Room 320.
