Local designer Michelle Chen once again flaunts her preference for simple lines and breathable fabrics in her second Weekend Sundries collection.
Chen says of the fall winter collection that was previewed at the Blueprint held earlier in May, “My design aesthetic for this collection can be largely characterised by clean monochromatic tones with pops of colour.”
Drawing inspiration from the simple charm of nature and the dreamy wistfulness of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Midnight Garden collection features a palette of blue hues from navy to cerulean, complemented by neutrals in quality fabrics.
Chen’s pattern-making and textile printing skills are evident in this season’s signature hand-illustrated Damask print that she designed and is screen-printed onto breezy cotton, a favourite for Singapore’s tropical climate.
Although the theme for Midnight Garden may be nature, Weekend Sundries fans won’t be disappointed by the versatility of the collection. Clean, relaxed silhouettes dominate, working well for both the weekend and weekday. The slightly eclectic pieces will be right at home at a garden picnic while the sharp tailoring deem them office-appropriate.
The Midnight Garden collection retails from $59 to $269 from late July 2013 at Threadbare & Squirrel,
