4 ways to wear flats to work and still look professional

Heels aren't always practical especially when you need to move around a lot. Here's how to look polished in flat shoes without sacrificing your style.

1) Keep Outerwear Short

It's all about creating the right proportions when wearing flats to work. Skip jackets, blazers and cardigans that are so long that they cover half your bottom.

Get one that comes up to your waistline or just below it. When your outerwear is too long and you wear flats, you end up looking "weighted down", short and frumpy.

Here are some examples of jackets you can try:

2) Opt for Slim, Structured Flats

Look dressy and professional at the office with flat shoes that are slim and structured. Go for pointed toed flats, and skip the round and square ones to look more polished. Depending on the dress code at your workplace, you would appear more professional if you go for solid colours. Avoid patterns unless you work in creative industries.

3) Keep Hemlines Above Knees

Again, it's about looking proportional. Similar to long jackets, if you wear a midi skirt with flat shoes, you would appear shorter and less dressy as compared to wearing a knee-length skirt with flats.

With that said, you can wear long skirts with flats but that will make you look less professional at work.

4) Wear Straight, Fitted Pants

Like how heels have a way of elongating your height, flats do the exact opposite. To look tall and sleek, wear your pants and trousers straight and fitted.

Baggy, roomy trousers would make you look short. Here are some pants to check out:
