THE BEGINNING We first met at Fig & Olive, one of our favourite restaurants in Los Angeles in the US. We were both by the bar when we started chatting. Max was leaving the country the next day, so we talked on the phone for about two weeks after we met, and just got to know each other better and better. Once he returned to LA, we were inseparable. The rest is history.
FAIRY-TALE PROPOSAL Max proposed at the iconic Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on the French Riviera in the south of France. Shortly after sunset, we were supposed to be heading to dinner at a restaurant in the hotel. Just as I was pointing out that we were going in the wrong direction, I saw a walkway scattered with red rose petals. Max led me to a ledge on a cliff overlooking the ocean, looked into my eyes and said to me ‘when you know, you know’, and that the past year and a half had been the best part of his life to date. He expressed how much he loved me, and eventually got down on one knee to propose. It was so dreamy and romantic!
AROUND THE WORLD As travel has been a major part of our lives together, we decided on a travel theme for our reception at the Hidden Hills Villas, which is owned by Max’s family, We had passport-style invites, door hostesses dressed as Pan Am stewardesses at a check-in desk, and seating arrangements in the form of boarding passes that showed the country of departure of each guest and Bali as the destination. We also had a huge arrival/departure sign with the names of various countries. For favours, guests received white Balinese beaded boxes containing a Buddha keychain, soap and magnets from different parts of the world.
AS WE’RE BOTH FILM AND TV PRODUCERS, OUR WEDDING HAD TO BE ENTERTAINING We had saxophone and trumpet players for our march-in, a six-piece jazz band, fireworks in the middle of our first dance, a video that included a same-day edit, a segment honouring Max’s late father, and a clip Max’s cousins put together for us, as well as a performance by about 20 Balinese Kecak dancers. We also played Shots by LMFAO to signify the transition into party mode while glowing tequila shots were handed out as pyrotechnics went off around around the stage.
ELECTRIC LOVE The mood was romantic, entertaining, fun and emotional. We wanted to make sure it was a great party with free-flow drinks and great company. The ambience was electric and happening, with lots of love in the air.
TOGETHER FOREVER I feel so happy that we are united forever. We have always been a team, but we are now one more than ever. I know I have my best friend and partner in life to brave the ups and downs with. I couldn’t imagine anyone else I’d rather start a family with.
